The ex Channon trained six year old 7F specialist switched yards to Gary Moores stable at the start of the season. He mark has been dropping down the handicap after performing in top class 2 and class 3 races running against top performers such as Plum Pudding OR 109 and Al Muheer OR 106 to name a few. Last September he was in front of the classy Signor Peltro now rated 100.
His last run 26 days ago a class 3 event at Sandown looking like he was being primed for a September campaign showing a lot of promise without being given a hard time.

Down to class 4 today and on a OR of 82 a previous winning rating he looks to have a strong chance of adding to his excellent September record 4 wins two of these being over couse and distance . South Cape simply adores Goodwood.

Dane O Neil take the ride today, pieces have been applied which is a little strange as all his wins have come without any training aids needing to be applied but Gary Moore kows the time of the day and sure to be getting a win out of him this month. As he likes to come from off the pace the race looks like to be run to suit with a few of these looking to make the running. He has won on types of going so there are also no ground concerns.

The Draw South Cape Drawn 11 from 12 runners

The Draw over 7 furlongs...
A stall in the highest third of the draw is definitely the place to
be over 7 furlongs at Goodwood.

The 7 furlong start is situated a little distance before the right
hand turn into the straight. As such, the horses drawn high
(closest to the rail) have a real advantage over those which have
to run wide into the home straight. They have the rail to help them
round the turn, they don't have to cover the extra distance the
wide horses do and they also avoid all the buffeting and barging
which takes place wider on the track as poorly drawn horses jostle
for position coming into the straight.

7f Wins %
Low 3rd 14 25.9
Mid 3rd 12 22.2
High 3rd 28 51.8
Total 54

The statistics above - looking at every 11+ field to race at
Goodwood over 7 furlongs since 2005 - certainly confirm just what
an advantage a high draw is. From 54 such races high-drawn horses
have won over 50% of the time and are the definite percentage play
over the 7 furlong trip.

I just hope today is the day, the betting is sure to give us a clue as the Moore stable knows how to get a horse ready, whatever the outcome I will be backing wherever he goes in the month of September and hopefully today he can make it 3 out of 3 over course and distance.

Saturday 15th September 2007 SOUTH CAPE, ridden by Darryll Holland, comes from last to first when winning for the second time this year (2007) and takes his prize money won to over £50,000.

Saturday 13th September 2008 and SOUTH CAPE wins again at Goodwood. This was the second time he had won this particular race, as he won it in 2007, but this time the distance was a comfortable length.

Sat 5th September

4.40 Thrisk

Desert Vision 1 pt win (currently 20-1) BF

Blue Spinnaker 1 pt win (currently 13-1) BF

Easterby sends 2 to Thrisk today and feel that it is best to dutch in this race as both seem to handle the conditions, Desert Vision is towards the head of the weights and having his first run back on soft since a win over 2 miles at musselburgh in a national hunt flat race back in Jan 08. That win was when the tongue tie was applied and has since had a couple of runs in  nhf race's interesting that one was a hot grade 2 race at Aintree where it ran well chasing the leaders for the fost 10f. Since then has ran with credit at various distances on the all weather, his best run coming within 1 length to cape express who is now rated 96 and class 1 and first 2 flat races.  He gets in here off 75, has winning conditions, dropping back to one mile, and the talented apprentice James Sullivan takes a further 7lbs claim.

Blue Spinnaker from the same stable looks the more fancied of the stables runners with course and distance win to his name.  Conditions look to be in his favor and is on a winning mark.

1.55 Haydock................Zuzu 1pt win currently  (25-1) BF

The lightly raced Jarvis trained 3 year has ran well here from a low draw on both occasions he had raced at the track. Running from a stall 17 today and towards the bottom of the weights he should be able to try and make all. The talented Chris Catlin takes the ride for the first time together with the pieces applied.

1.55 Haydock................Highland Legacy 1pt win currently  (20-1) BF

The Bell trained five year old  caught the eye last season when running a big race and looking the likely winner in the plate until being sqeezed out and completely eased by Jamie Spencer at the time.

Has won on the soft and today tried with the visor fitted, Callan is back in the saddle who is 2 out of 2 on him.

Hopefully with conditions looking likely to suit and the visor to work its magic he can make it 3 out of 3.

Wednesday 2 September 2009

Really pleased to get stuck into a 10-1 winner for the first day giving us a nice profit of 20 points.
Hopefully that gives us some nice points to work on over the next couple of weeks.
